Damaged by Hurricane Marilyn in 1995 and left untouched for decades, I spent five years carefully restoring and expanding the property, weaving modern luxury into 1873 stone. Old maps, historic images, and modern local art speak to each other and to the spaces they inhabit; in each room a small conversation between four decades of history and the present day.
Rebuilt block by block, with nothing left to chance. Floor-to-ceiling impact windows and sliding glass doors dissolve the line between in and out, and every room opens onto its own stretch of sky. Watch the light move through the day, right along with it.
Step into a chef’s kitchen, equipped and ready for whatever you’re craving. Come evening, sink into memory foam mattresses under blackout shades, the Bose sound bar carrying you quietly into the night.

We’re two generations who adore unorthodox traveling destinations and meaningful experiences. We love exploring buried histories, solving puzzles, and engaging in creative endeavors. And we care deeply about Mother Nature and all her creatures, on two, four, or more limbs.
That curiosity is what drew us to Charlotte Amalie in the first place: her stunning architecture, her endless charm, and her 400-year-old complex past of new world exploration and exploitation, piracy, colonialism, and the slave trade. The Ampersand, severely damaged during Hurricane Marilyn in 1995 and left untouched for decades, became our way in, so we rolled up our sleeves and lovingly restored it.
